Katapygon
A rearguard musical project that blends primordial ritualistic electronics with ancient poetry in industrial suburbs and dusty libraries. The Eleusinian techno-mysteries, Dionysian orgies on suburban trains, rituals for washing machines and refrigerators, the marches of the Arval Brothers banging on oil cans, and Persephone descending into the subway through an army of shadows during rush hour.
The project took its name from an article in the Onomastikon by Julius Pollux:
ἀπὸ δὲ πυγῶν ὀνόματα εὔπυγος, καλλίπυγος, καταπύγων, καὶ καθ' Ἡσίοδον πυγοστόλος· οἱ δὲ Ἀττικοὶ καὶ τὸν μέσον τῆς χειρὸς δάκτυλον καταπύγονα ὠνόμαζον._
(Julius Pollux Gramm., Onomastikon Book 2, section 184, line 3)
From the word "ass" (pygon) derives the nouns: εὔπυγος (meaning "well-bottomed"), καλλίπυγος (meaning "beautiful-bottomed"), καταπύγων (meaning "backward-bottomed"), and πυγοστόλος ("Hesiod's bottom-painter").
The residents of Attica also refer to the middle finger as καταπύγων.
Roles in the project — live visuals, promo videos, participation in record sessions (syths).
