my younger self was left in awe
by the cold beauty of this game
concrete and steel mythology
and visual grittiness

though I’ve studied every pixel there is, still I always find myself launching the first Max Payne game. аgain its visual style finds a way to my art, again it’s audio becomes a part of my evening ambient improvisation behind the closed door of my room.

I can’t explain why it haunts me so, the desire to go back is almost perversive. I want to tear the camera away from the main character and look around once again. the world is put asunder, there’s nothing behind buildings’ facades. sometimes they even don’t have sides, and you can see low-res skybox straight through them

I’ve launched it again today in search of inspiration for a chase scene in the cyberpunk city, eager to put it together from a pile of notes torn from my notebook and scattered  on my table. the video streams from the computer to the analog convertor and then - to another computer where I’m supposed to be working. But I’m distracted and can’t resist the urge to visit my dear junkies and give a passing look to Rosco Street station tiles.
